Vancover Washingtom area loses $3.9 Billion in federal taxes.

Southwest Washington (Vancouver, Clark County & Beyond), Where Is Our $7,139 Going? 😀

Washington ranks as the #3 DONOR STATE nationally β€” we send WAY more in federal taxes to D.C. than we get back in services, infrastructure, or support. Per USAFacts (latest data), that's a net loss of $7,139 per person every single year!

For Southwest Washington (Clark County alone ~542,400 residents in 2025, with steady growth), this drains an estimated $3.9 BILLION from our local economy annually. That's $3.9 BILLION not staying here to fuel jobs, growth, or relief for our communities!

Small businesses are hit the hardest in our region:

Mom-and-pop shops & entrepreneurs starved: This huge outflow means less money circulating locally β€” fewer customers, contracts, and spending power for Vancouver's retail stores, restaurants, contractors, wineries, and service businesses. Thin margins get even thinner!

Higher local taxes to plug the hole: With less federal money returning, the state leans on sales, property, and B&O taxes β€” directly burdening small ops already navigating high costs, competition from Portland, and growth pressures. Many struggle to expand or even survive.

Missed federal aid & opportunities: Fewer grants for SBA loans, economic development, disaster relief, or infrastructure support compared to "recipient" states. Our diverse economy (healthcare, manufacturing, professional services, tourism) misses out when we need it most.

We're one of the fastest-growing areas in the Northwest β€” with booming Vancouver Waterfront projects, strong job sectors, and a vibrant small business scene β€” yet we're subsidizing other states while our roads, housing, and local needs lag!

$3.9 BILLION lost every year β€” that's not abstract; it's lost revenue for small businesses, higher costs for owners, and tougher times for families in Clark County and Southwest WA.

The Tri-Cities isn't alone β€” Southwest Washington is paying for the nation's progress without getting our fair share back!

Time to demand fairness!

Ask your reps why we're subsidizing everyone else while our small businesses fight rising costs and limited support.
